I attended the Bridgend Minority Ethnic Forum, ’Health and Social Care Provision’ event, 30 October 2018. The event was organised by Yaina Samuels, Regional Co-ordinator for the Ethnic Minority and Youth Support Team (EYST).
Councillor Dhanisha Patel (Bridgend County Borough Council) gave the welcome address. This was followed by Suzanne Duval of Diverse Cymru, who introduced the BME Mental Health Workplace Good Practice Certification Scheme Cultural Competency Toolkit. I gave a presentation on Race, Conflict and Community Relations in the context of lived experience, diversity, bias, discrimination and access to health and social care.
This event presented a unique opportunity for dialogue across different platforms, bringing together the expertise of health professionals and service users. Subsequent discussions and workshops demonstrated a genuine commitment among agencies to improve access to services for minority ethnic community members.
